I. Organization of the Homeroom D-140 WebsiteThe Homepage is now familiar to you, because you have found your way to this instruction page. If you scroll the Homepage you will find 3 different Search Engines, links to specific large sites that can support any biology program, and a chart with links to each of the courses found at the Homeroom D-140 site.
There are five academic courses available online from this site. The links below will take you to the Syllabus pages where you will read about each course and be linked to pertinent sites related to the subject matter.
At the top of each Syllabus page you will find several key links. They will give you access to the course content and direct you in completing the subject matter online. All course testing is done in the classroom, but there are many online tests and quizzes to assess your retention of the material.
Refer to the key links below under each course heading. The links are active and will take you to each of the pages related to the course heading. Read the instructions on using each of the links before you go to them. They all work together to produce a total learning experience. Toggle back and forth between those links and this page until you have an understanding of how the program works. Once you feel comfortable with the components, begin using them to learn.

A. 10 Honors/10 Biology10 Honors Course Objectives PageThe 10 Honors Course Objectives and the 10 Course Objectives are your directives for mastering the subject matter in the 10 Honors/10 Biology Course. These objectives are keyed to the State of Maryland's Biology Examination.
Copy and Paste the appropriate objectives into a word processing program. Keep them on your computer Desktop as you navigate the textbook and links provided for you on the Quick Reference and 10 Honors Assignment or the 10 Assignment Pages. Type out the answers to the objective questions using the word processing program. Successfully answering, understanding, and retaining these answers will prepare you to take the classroom examinations.
The basic approach to learning subject matter is to set a foundation of fundamental resource materials, and then enrich and deepen our understanding of the basics. The basics come from your text and it should be read first using the SQ4R method before using the resources of this web site. All of the information available on this web site assumes that the text has been read and the links here will improve your understanding.
The examinations have been correlated to the State of Maryland's proposed graduation test objectives. If you succeed at successfully passing your course tests with a 75 or better, then you should be prepared to pass the State's Examination.
10 Honors Assignment PageHere are the Chapters, links and online activities that will provide instruction to answer the objective questions.
If you have a recent Biology Textbook, you should be able to locate the Chapter headings. Read each of the chapters using the SQ4R method. Simply Click the Chapter heading to get detailed instructions on how to use SQ4R. Always read each of the text chapters with this method and apply it to any online reading that is to be completed. It is a method, developed at Cornell University, that will reap real rewards for you if you will use it regularly.
When you enter the 10 Honors Assignment Page you will find an INDEX chart that starts at the top left and moves down to the bottom of the chart, back to the middle top and so on . The entire course is here, you merely have to click on the chapter you wish to see and you will be sent to that Assignment page.
Look at the headings under each of the Chapter Titles.
Here is a listing of the activities, or resources, that will be used during the lecture/discussion portion of the course. If there are any active links under this section be sure they have been visited before the class lecture and activites.
It is under this heading that you will find the main active links and resources that supplement and enrich the biology course.Open your word processing program and put your objectives for the section you are studying on the desktop. Read the instructions given for each link provided and complete any tasks set for you. Recognize that these resources will be a major component of the whole process of mastering the subject of biology.
Move back and forth between the Internet sites and your objectives. Use all of the resources from your textbook and the links to answer the questions on your objectives page. If there are any objectives that these resources do not address, then bring your questions to class so that they can be dealt with by your instructor.
Lab The laboratory portion of the course has many simulations and online support materials. Use any active links to perform any "hands-on, or mind-on" activities that are posted.
Reference Any links that can further supplement the materials already provided will be located here. You should check them out. You may think that all of these resources amount to overload, but remember that you can never know too much, but you sure can know too little.
Quick Reference PageThis page can be accessed from the Homepage of Homeroom D-140 . It is what it says. A Quick way to reference all of the course materials on the site. There are two columns on the page. The left column is listed as Course Materials and each section in the column is headed by the Assignment Page for the course followed by the Course Objectives. Continuing down this column you will find pertinent links pertaining to everything from the course components, the State of Maryland Standards, Reference sites and College Admissions information. The right-hand column is headed Supplements. These are sites related to the subject matter in the course and will enrich the learning process.
At the top of the page is a box headed Bio Books,Tutorials and Practice Exams . Click on the link and look at the resources that can supplement you course work. The links under the box are pertinent sites that offer many opportunities for learning. Of particular interest are Kimball's Pages which are the virtual pages of an online textbook which will be featured on the assignment pages for each Chapter.
