The dynamics of an ovarian tumor can be simulated using a program language known as NetLogo. The model will demonstrate many of the physical and chemical characteristics of an actual cancerous ovarian tumor. Using this interactive model will help you understand some of the mechanisms that operate at the cellular level and affect the success, or failure, of treatments that use chemotherapeutic agents.

Begin this Ovarian Cancer Tumor Simulation Quest by Opening and Operating the Tumor 2 Simulation using the instructions detailed below.

Opening and Operating the Tumor 2 Simulation

The Tumor 2 Model will run in your browser on the Internet if you are using a PC. You must have NetLogo 1.0 downloaded and installed if you are using a MAC. Follow the instructions below that apply to your computer.

Opening the Tumor 2 Model Using a PC

1. Click on the following link: NetLogo-Tumor 2. Read What Is It? and How To Use It, then come BACK to this page.

2. Click on Run Tumor 2 in your browser. The model should download an Applet and open itself in a separate window in your browser.

Once you have successfully opened the Tumor 2 Simulation we can begin our experiments. There are two things you need to do:

1. Open the PowerPoint Presentation online and use it to learn the function of the buttons on the Tumor 2 simulation. Click here to open.

*You can download the same presentation and open it with your PowerPoint application if you wish. Download

2.Click on Ovarian Tumor Simulation Worksheet and follow the directions.

Opening the Tumor 2 Model Using a MAC

1. DOWNLOAD the NetLogo 1.0 Application and Models Library to your Desktop. Set the Version Menu to Netlogo 1.0, fill out the information component, DOWNLOAD and INSTALL.

2. Click on the following link: NetLogo-Tumor 2 . Read What Is It? and How To Use It, then come BACK to this page.

3. Holding down the CONTROL key Click and hold on this link on the NetLogo Tumor 2 page. A MENU will open and you should select DOWNLOAD LINK TO DISK. This should begin a DOWNLOAD of the Tumor 2 file onto your Desktop.

4. Double Click the NetLogo 1.0 icon and open the program.

5. Drop down the FILE menu and select OPEN. Go to the Desktop and locate the Tumor 2 file. Open it.
