Delivering
Content With Technology
Technology
Infusion Specialist: Arthur Renkwitz
Are we
preparing students for their future, or our
past?
"Technology
follows content"
Collaborative
Learning: Just because you *can*, doesn't mean you
*should*
I'm
all in favour of pioneering and trailblazing, but the
downside is that evangelistic fervour can sometimes
outweigh, or cloud over, any objective judgement. In
my view, what we educationalists should be aiming for
is not to get our students and colleagues to use
technology, but to use appropriate technology
appropriately. Unfortunately, that message sometimes
seems to get lost in the hubbub.
-Terry
Freedman
How
Do We Transform Our Schools?
"No
one knows for sure what the education world will look
like in the future. But if the path we are on
continues, ten years from now we are likely to have a
completely different discussion about the impact
computers have on schooling and on learning. The only
way to get to that point, however, is by not repeating
the mistakes from the past. Pitting computer-based
learning directly against teachers or continuing to
cram it into schools will not work. Producers of
computer-based learning software must introduce it
disruptively, by letting it compete against
non-consumption initially. And software makers must
customize the software for different learning types
while other entrepreneurs find new channels to reach
students. If all this happens, those who have extolled
the benefits of computer-based learning might finally
be able to see its promise
materialize."

M. Christensen,Harvard Business School.

Google
for Educators
Here,
you'll find a teacher's guide to Google Tools for Your
Classroom, as well as a number of additional tools.
And to spark your imagination, you'll find examples of
innovative ways that other educators are using these
tools in the classroom.
While
you're here, you can sign up for a Google account, the
quarterly Google for Educators newsletter, as well as
check out the latest from The Infinite Thinking
Machine, a Google-sponsored, WestEd-produced blog for
educators, by educators.
Since the
Google for Educators site was launched , they've heard
from many teachers that they'd like an easy way to
communicate with Google, and more importantly, with
their fellow teachers. To that end, Google launched a
new community with the Google for Educators Discussion
Group. Visit often to learn of new announcements from
Google and to share any of your ideas.
They'll
be adding features and content to Google for Educators
regularly in coming months, so be sure to check the
page often.

Seeing Statistics
®
is
a new approach to teaching statistics using the
World Wide Web. This webbook is based on three
premises:
*
The important principles of statistics are
remarkably easy if they can be
seen.
*
Active involvement of the student facilitates
learning.
*
Statistics can be fun!
Most of
the graphs and figures in this textbook are
dynamic and under the control of the reader.
Interacting with the graphs allows you to see
the important statistical principles in
action.
Rather
than talk about it, it is best to view Seeing
Statistics in action. To access Seeing
Statistics, click on
