Here's Jim's description of his presentations:

Drawing from material I pulled together -- much of it as yet unused --for a talk I gave several years ago at The Pratt, the idea is a series titled, "A Goodly Daze of Evil Knights -- Noble in Name Only," featuring members of the nobility who fall far from the mark when it comes to sterling character. Some possibilities would be:

[1] Sir George Burnwell and His Royal Highness Albert Edward, the Prince of Wales, in "The Beryl Coronet".

[2] John Clay, in "The Red-Headed League".

[3] Count Negretto Silvius, Baron Dowson, and Lord Cantlemere, in "The Mazarine Stone".

[4] Sir Robert Norberton, in "Shoscombe Old Place".

[5] The man with name as long as a country mile our hereditary King of Bohemia, in "A Scandal in Bohemia".

[6] Colonel Sebastian Moran, in "The Empty House".

* [7] Baron Adelbert Gruner, in "The Illustrious Client".

[8] Barion Maupertous, in "The Reigate Squires" (this, admittedly, might be a stretch).

*the villain de jour!

Alice Zalik has created another pillow for this meeting's raffle that is, as always, absolutely astounding! The raffle tickets will be $5 each and well worth every penny to have a chance to own this creative Sherlockian masterpiece. the pillow materials, including the color scheme and the tie patterns were selected because they related to things about the story. Here are the details:
Color scheme: primarily red, with gold, because of the hot August weather, the fact that fire had burned remains thought to be Oldacre, blood on walking stick, and the bloody thumb print.

Ties: All silk. Block like ones relate to building, pyramid ones also relate to building but also to fingerprints, another relates to flames and the texture to fingerprints

Beads: Japanese and Czech glass seed beads and bugle beads, other glass and metal beads, carved agate and round mahogany jasper, horn oblong beads and various accent beads

Metal and ceramic charms related to the story. Plastic and metal buttons related to the story.

Commercial fringe and beaded trim.

During the January Meeting of the BSI in New York, Alice contributed a pillow for the Watson Fund. The fund raises money to help Irregulars who find the expense of the New York trip a bit daunting.

The pillow was The Abbey Grange. It brought $260 at auction and was bought by Leslie Kinger whose investiture is the Abbey Grange. Pictures are below with some comments from Alice on the pillow and its construction:

"The pillow took a lot longer than I thought it would to bead and sew -- nearly 63 hours! (but who's counting?) Anyway, it looks pretty good so I hope that it will bring a good amount for the Watson fund. They might want to add to the kinds of beads - opal, because I put 6 real opal beads on the pillow since the word "opalescent" appears at least twice in the story and Australia is famous for its opals, among many other things."
